Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday Winner!

I am thrilled to have been chosen by Theo Paphitis yesterday as one of six winners of his Small Business Sunday awards. Every Sunday, between 5pm and 7.30pm small businesses are invited to tweet Theo about their business, using the hashtag #SBS.  I tweeted Sunday and never expected to be picked, it's such an honour and feels like welcome recognition of my hard work over the years growing my small business from a tiny seed of an idea to where it is now.  The award has certainly spurred me on, so keep visiting the website for lots of new exciting products in the...

Spring Cleaning

It never ceases to surprise me how much material I manage to accumulate, not to mention assorted craft bits and stationery. I am a complete magpie when it comes to fabric, it doesn’t even need to be sparkly. When you have piles all over you workroom floor though you’ve probably got too much, so I’ve had a clear out.  During the last lockdown I gathered everything together in the garage along with some left over cupboard doors from our kitchen refit last year.  Having also saved some other useful craft items and stationery from the bin of a friend moving...

SME News UK Enterprise Awards 2020

I can finally reveal some fantastic news ... From Rags to Bags has been named as Homeware Designer of the Year 2020 - Southern England in the SME News UK Enterprise Awards.  A few months ago, in the middle of lockdown I was told that the business had been nominated and was given the chance to accept the nomination and provide more information for the judging panel, such as examples of outstanding customer service and plans for the future development of the business. Several weeks later I got the good news. Congratulations to all of the other winners and many thanks...

Well, with Covid-19 we are all trying to navigate our way through a whole new world as best we can. Thankfully I run the business from my home workshop, so can continue to sew during the enforced isolation.  Suddenly, having so much extra time in a day is quite a novelty.  I plan to stock up on products, make new ones, develop new ideas and have also enrolled in a number of online art courses. Hopefully that will keep me busy and thankfully I have a large fabric stash to work through.   I will continue to post out orders...

Southampton Scrapstore

One of my favourite places to go fabric hunting is the Southampton Scrapstore.  The Scrapstore, which is a registered charity, is an Aladdin’s cave of fabric, haberdashery, art and craft supplies donated by local businesses and members. Individuals, community groups and schools can pay for an annual membership. An individual membership is only £19.50 in the first year and £17.50 a year thereafter and entitles the member to visit up to once a week, filling a bag with supplies for just £1.50. You would be amazed at how many fabric remnants you can fit into a bag, together with ribbons, beads and anything...
